Imagine All The Strawberries

Finn and Leon both thought that not only is Central Park big, but it takes up a lot of space on the ground. And if you’re going to walk to where you’re going, you’ll have to walk all the way from where you started. At least, that’s what they found out when they walked from the Hotel to the Park.

They were pretty tired by the time they got to 72nd Street and Central Park West, so they found some nice green benches and sat down for a few hours. They would have taken a nap while they were sitting on the bench, but there were SO many interesting people walking past that they just had to watch them.

The curious thing about all of the interesting people was that they would stop and stare at the ground in front of where Finn and Leon were sitting. Finn and Leon looked at the place where the people were staring and they saw black and white tile stuck in the sidewalk, but they couldn’t figure out what was so interesting about it. They thought, “there are a lot of sidewalks and floors and even walls that have tile stuck in them, what makes this place so special?” They didn’t know, so they just kept on watching.

Not only did the people stop and stare at the tile in the sidewalk, but they would sit down on the tile and get their picture taken. Many of them held up two fingers while grinning at the camera. A few of them looked down at the tile with sad, contemplative looks on their faces while their picture was being taken. Some people even put flowers on the tile. Very interesting, they thought. Finn asked Leon if this was another one of those perspective things where the perspective they had made them do different things. “Could be”, replied Leon. “But I don’t think that you could fit the tile in a box”, he added.

A nice passerby heard Finn and Leon talking and told them that this part of Central Park was called Strawberry Fields and that the tile in the sidewalk was a tribute to a famous man that wrote a song about Strawberry Fields. He also told them that the famous man used to bring his son to this part of Central Park many, many years ago. They thanked the nice passerby for the information and then they jumped down to get a closer look at the tile in the sidewalk.

As they were looking at the tile, they noticed that it said “imagine” in the middle. “I thought the nice passerby said that this was Strawberry Fields. So why does it say imagine?”, asked Finn. Leon wasn’t sure. So they looked around to see if there were any fields of strawberries, but they couldn’t see any. “Maybe it says imagine because you’re just supposed to imagine that there are fields of strawberries”, said Leon. “How do we do that?”, asked Finn. Leon said, “with your eyes closed, it’s easy that way.”

It doesn’t seem real, does it
