I was walking down main street, minding my own business when this scene grabbed my attention and asked me to capture it with my camera; so I did.
And here is why I was there at that place at that point in time:
A few years ago, I earned my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI). I figured it would be a good certification to have, since a lot of what I do for my work is related to Project Management. In addition to getting the certification, I also joined the Northern Utah Chapter of PMI. On the first Thursday of each month at 7:00am, the Utah Chapter sponsors morning networking meetings at various locations.
The morning networking meeting that I attend is held at the Millcreek Coffee Roasters coffee shop in downtown Salt Lake City on Main Street between 6th S and 7th S. So there I was, walking down Main Street from the TRAX Courthouse Station to get to this month’s meeting when I saw it.
And now that I had seen it, I had to capture it. I pulled my camera out of my bag, used a conveniently placed light pole to steady the camera and captured this image:
I had never seen this alley in this way before, with the lights and the sunrise; although I have walked past it many times. It’s amazing to me how different lighting can completely change the way a scene is perceived and the feeling it portrays.
This image gives me the same feeling I get when I look at “Nighthawks” a painting by Edward Hopper from 1942. The scene is very different, of course, but to me, the feeling is the same.
I also think t it would be a good album cover for a blues band.
