52 Photo Challenge: Negative Space

Here is Nicolesy‘s introduction to week 8’s topic of “Negative Space”: “It’s always great to fill the frame with your subject, but sometimes giving your subject room to breathe can make a HUGE impact in the photo. Negative space (also known as ‘copy space’ in the commercial-photography industry) is an area surrounding your main subject that is empty or has a minimalistic backdrop. You see these types of photos all the time in advertising, where the subject is off to the side and the space next to them has text in it (hence the space for ‘copy’).”

I was in Salt Lake City, Utah during most of the “Negative Space” week (interpret that any way you want to, but for me, being in SLC was not a negative thing at all, in fact, it was quite positive). Four of these photos were all taken while in SLC. The disc golf target photo was taken in Olathe, KS after getting back from SLC.
