I took one of the photos I captured of apples while I was at my sister Stacia’s house a few weeks ago and added a few overlays to satisfy week 41’s topic “Overlay”.
And for week 42, the topic was “Details”. The instructions for this topic included this, “When looking at a larger scene, it is easy to want to include everything in the frame. For this challenge, try looking at the smaller details within the bigger picture.”
I was sitting at my desk and thinking about what to shoot for this topic. I looked at some empty shell casings that I took home with me after doing some pistol shooting in Salt Lake a few weeks ago. I had grabbed empty .45, 9mm and .22 shell casings so I could show Lisa the difference in sizes among the various calibers. They were just sitting there on my desk, and then I looked below the window to the left of my desk, where I have other empty shell casings: 20mm, 30mm, 40mm and 105mm.
The thought then came to me that it might be cool to show the difference in sizes for all of the shell casings that I have. As a result of that thought, I captured this photo:
Starting from back to front and then left to right: 105mm, 40mm, 30mm, 20mm, .45, 9mm and .22
And here is the detail shot that I captured:
The .22 shell casing is about 5/8’s of an inch long. The 105mm shell casing is about fifteen inches long. Quite a difference!
On Saturday, October 22nd, I drove over to Shawnee Mission Park where a car show was going on, so I grabbed a few detail shots of some of the cars.
And finally, on Sunday, as I was driving home from watching the Primary Program my grandkids were in (they all did a great job, by the way!), I drove past the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery on the corner of 75th and Antioch in Overland Park and just had to stop and walk through it.
