Lisa’s friend, Tasha, introduced us to the CD “Ecstatic Groove: Sacred World Chant Infusions” by Jennifer Salima Holt. Tasha had attended the Agape International Spiritual Center in Los Angeles on a Sunday when Jennifer Salima Holt was there to perform and was impressed with her music. One of the songs, “E Kala Mai” is the Ho’oponopono prayer. Thanks, Tasha for telling us about this one! Here’s a description of the CD from Jennifer’s website:

Ecstatic Groove: Sacred World Chant Infusions (Salima’s Whirled Peas, 2009) is a musical “sister project” to Jennifer Salima Holt’s book, Sacred Gateway of Grief and Loss: Freeing the Imprisoned Soul. The book and CD were inspired by Jennifer’s volunteer work in women’s prisons leading grief and loss groups. While running these groups, the women joined her in singing sacred songs from many spiritual lineages; this musical project is dedicated to them. (Ten percent of all net profits are being tithed to creative activities for women who are incarcerated.) The CD showcases haunting mystical chants from Sufi, Gregorian (Catholic), Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Native American, Hawaiian and African spiritual lineages. By infusing the sacred chants with techno and hip hop elements, new relevance is given to the devotional world music arena. With each song, Jennifer’s soulful, mysterious voice and ethereal harmonic toning deepen listeners’ sense of inner peace.

Lucy, of “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” fame, dies.

Great music and P.D.Q. Bach, too

My Mom introduced me to some great music while I was growing up: Opera and Classical. My favorite music to listen to these days was written during the Baroque era by such composers as: Teleman, Albinoni, Vivaldi, Pachelbel, Scarlatti, Handel, Fasch and many others; Vivaldi being my all-time favorite. I like music from other eras and styles as well. Mozart, Beethoven, The Beatles, Yes.

When I was a small child, my favorite record to listen to was what I called “The Clown Record”. It was a recording of the opera, “Pagliacci”. I don’t know who made the recording or who the performers were. Eventually, that record was lost; and as a result of that loss, I forgot about the clown record. Many years later I heard Luciano Pavorotti perform the aria, “Vesti La Giubba”. I recognized it and asked what it was from. I was told that it was from the Opera, “Pagliacci”. My clown record was back!
